The Hungarian Baptist Aid has sent 60 power generators and eight power inverters to Ukraine in collaboration with the Hungary Helps humanitarian programme, the organisation said on Tuesday.
The Baptist Aid told MTI it will send 15 more high-performance generators to the neighbouring country over the coming weeks. It cited Tristan Azbej, the state secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for helping persecuted Christians, as saying that the crisis caused by the destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was getting worse.
“This is why the aid that we’re sending is so important,” Azbej said. He said ten of the 60 generators were being sent to the western Ukrainian region of Transcarpathia, while 50 will be going to the suburb of Kyiv that has been heavily affected by the war. Meanwhile, the Baptist Aid said it has welcomed more than 30,000 refugees over the last ten months in Tiszabecs, in eastern Hungary. The organisation said it is providing accommodation, food and hygienic care to hundreds of refugees in several locations. It also helps refugees find jobs, offers dormitory placement for secondary school students arriving alone and organises camps for children.
Catholic Caritas hands out Christmas packages to Ukrainian refugees
Dignitaries handed out Christmas packages on behalf of the Hungarian Catholic Charity to Ukrainian refugee children and their families in a church in central Hungary, on Tuesday. Greeting the families, Archbishop Péter Erdő, the leader of the Hungarian Catholic Church, said “the presents we are handing over to you today is in fact given to you by God, we are only filling the role of postman, but with those presents go our hearts as well”.
Gábor Écsy, the national director of the charity, said that “with our packages, we are symbolically inviting you to join us at our tables laid for Christmas” and “we would like to express this way our sympathy with our Ukrainian friends”.
Liliana Grexa, the Ukrainian spokeswoman serving in the Hungarian parliament, thanked the Catholic Charity for the support and aid it has extended to refugees, especially to children, coming to Hungary from Ukraine and those who have chosen to stay in their home country since the outbreak of the war. She expressed special thanks to the charity, the Catholic Church and the Hungarian state for helping the refugees “to forget for a bit about everyday reality”. According to the Charity’s press release, it is currently supporting 1,250 refugee families. The packages for children include winter clothing, drawing kits, backpacks, candies and vouchers.

Maltese Charity sending generators, fuel tanks to Transcarpathia
The Hungarian Maltese Charity is sending portable generators, 1,000-litre fuel tanks and portable car fuel fillers to Ukraine’s Transcarpathia province, the organisation said in a statement on Wednesday. The charity said in their statement that the generators would serve welfare institutions and schools in a region hit by frequent power outages.
Distribution of the generators will be coordinated by the charity’s local chapter in Berehove (Beregszász). The portable fillers, easily transported in a van, could be used as “mobile filling stations” to replenish the fuel tanks of generators or fill cars on the spot, the charity said.
